Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an annual worldwide celebration and observance of free and open-source software. It's typically held on the third Saturday in September each year. The primary goal of Software Freedom Day is to promote and raise awareness about the benefits of using and contributing to free and open-source software (FOSS).
On September 16 2023 Birendra Open Source Club organised an event to celebrate SFD in collaboration with Birendra IT Club and CCT Open Source Club as well as Dev Community Nepal as community partner.

In this event we celebrated SFD by diving into the history of SDF, free and open source softwares, FOSS over proprietary softwares and more. There were lots of presentations relating to topics like FOSS, Linux, open source repository, contributing on open source repos, contributing data on OSM, open stage session for experience sharing, guiding, career roadmap, group discussion session and more. Fun sessions like identifying logos and quiz questions along with swags giveaways added more interaction and fun in celebrating SFD2023.
Overall the event concluded with the successful celebration of Software Freedom Day, with fun, community engagements, interactions and learning as well as networking with people of various backgrounds, which has greatly and positively impacted the growth of the open source community in our region.
