Hacktoberfest 2025

2025-10-18

In alignment with the global celebration of open-source software, BOSC spearheaded a month-long Hacktoberfest 2025 campaign designed to demystify the contribution process for students and developers alike. The initiative kicked off with a high-impact "Guide to Hacktoberfest" virtual session held on Discord on October 11th, aimed at bridging the gap between hesitation and action. Distinguished speakers Mr. Shriram Lamichhane from The SR Zone and Mr. Achyut Koirala, COO of Cyber Alert Nepal, led the mentorship efforts, providing invaluable guidance on Git workflows, repository management, and the etiquette of open-source collaboration. This educational phase was crucial in empowering beginners to navigate their first pull requests and understand the broader significance of the open-source ecosystem.

The results of this dedicated mentorship were immediately visible in the community's impressive output throughout the month. Between September 30 and October 31, the club recorded active engagement metrics that underscored a thriving technical culture: 30 repositories were forked, resulting in 29 commits and, most notably, 26 merged pull requests. The event culminated in a celebration of individual excellence, where Sandesh Gadal was recognized as the "Top Contributor" for his prolific dedication, securing 7 merged pull requests single-handedly. By closing 18 issues and earning stars on community repositories, BOSC’s Hacktoberfest 2025 proved to be not just a celebration, but a tangible accelerator for student technical growth and global collaboration.
